This exam is open to students at the University of Arkansas who took previous Japanese
language courses elsewhere. Examinees must have a working command of hiragana and katakana; those without a working command of hiragana and katakana must take JAPN 10103 Elementary Japanese I and then move to a suitable upper-level
course in a subsequent semester. Each student may take this placement exam only once
throughout his/her academic career at the University of Arkansas.
Academic Credit
This placement exam does not confer credit (i.e., results of this test will not affect
the students' GPAs) because it is designed only to estimate the examinees' current
language proficiency level. Students are solely responsible for their academic decisions
and results.

Students need a valid student email address issued by the University of Arkansas (username@uark.edu) to register for the exam. Students must complete the exam no later than 12:00 noon on the first Wednesday of
Fall or Spring Semester to register for a suitable Japanese language course without delay. The Japanese Program
will not entertain late requests to take the online Japanese Placement Exam under
any circumstances.
