Innovative Pedagogy Expo—Oct. 8, 2024
The Studio hosted the Innovative Pedagogy Expo on October 8, 2024. Four stations set up around the Studio with the goal of sharing knowledge acrosslanguage sections, thus strengthening our already robust translinguistic teaching community in WLLC.
Below are the presenters for the expo, along with links to their presentations and other resources provided.
- Maria Comsa (French): Singing Toward Fluency (PDF)
- Heather Offerman and Louis Gehrke (Spanish): Visual Feedback for Pronunciation (PDF, PDF)
- Sydney Massey (French): Tik-Tok in the Classroom
- Curtis Maughan (DH): Language Teaching with Video Games (PDF, PDF)

Sydney Massey (TA, French) shared her experience with using Tik-Tok and other video creation platforms in the classroom at the Innovative Pedagogy Expo held on October 8, 2024. Assigning video projects for students allows them to practice their speaking and presentation skills, while also enhancing their vocabulary knowledge and encouraging creativity.

Maria Comsa (Teaching Assistant Professor, French) shared the platform "Lyrics Training" at the Expo, citing how the site can be used to teach students French through music and lyrics. Songs can be chosen to select specific types of lessons, such as using prepositions, and words can be removed from the songs requiring students to practice listening, vocabulary, and writing skills.

Louis Gehrke (TA, Spanish) and Heather Offerman (Assistant Professor, Spanish) shared the software Praat alongside their research with improving pronunciation for non-native speakers of Spanish. Their research was presented at the 15th annual Pronunciation and Second Language Learning and Teaching Conference in September 2024.

Curtis Maughan (Teaching Assistant Professor, Digital Humanities, and Director, WLDH Studio) demonstrated how he has used the "Untitled Goose Game" in the language classroom to allow students to practice different speaking elements of language learning, ranging from vocabulary, giving directions and using the imperative.
